The Levy House was built circa 1830 for a Jackson,
LA merchant and moved to its present location in 1968. This site was chosen and named by Mrs. Robert Couhig.
She was better known by everyone as "Nootsie". Asphodel Plantation Village was
conceived by Nootsie Couhig. Not only did she create Asphodel Village but she also created that wonderful bread
that captured our hearts, known as Asphodel Bread.
The aroma and taste of this unique bread lives on at The Historic Plantation Village.
Nootise also published the Asphodel Cookbook, still in publication, featuring the Levy House on the cover.
Nootsie's gift shop was noted for many unique gifts including doll houses and miniatures. I began my pilgrimage
to Asphodel Village in the early 70's to buy Christmas ornaments each year. Like everyone else, I fell in love
with Nootsie's warmth and love for her dream. The large gallery, surrounding three sides of the Levy house,
hosted guests. Many sipped cocktails as they waited to dine inside or out on the gallery.
Much of Nootsie's creation remains the same. After thirty-five years we've changed the name to The Historic Plantation
Village. In our hearts and minds it will always be. The Historic Levy House is currently used for weddings, receptions,
rehearsal dinners, seminars, reunions and similar functions. An active search has begun to reopen the restaurant.
Our bed and breakfast has been fully operational for 3-1/2 years. Guest rooms have the same charm but have been updated.
Seven rooms have wood burning fireplaces. All rooms have a private bath as well as a microwave, refrigerator and coffee
pot. Enter each guest room by pressing our Rates icon at the top of this page. For additional pictures of the Historic
Plantation Village press the Location icon at the top of the page. This is the Inn that lives in our memories.
